About Me

Hello there! Welcome to my little corner of the internet.  Kick your shoes off and make yourself at home.

What can I tell you about myself?  Hmmm. . .

    • I am very happily married to my wife, Beth.  I thank God daily for her, and pray that she doesn’t ever realize how far I “married up.”
    • The Rempe Crew, circa. 2015.
      The Rempe Crew, circa. 2015.

I am the proud papa of four wonderful children.  Grace is an inquisitive ball of energy, and a wonderful big sister to brother Caleb, who is definitely “all boy.”  Samuel is our fearless, adventuresome daredevil.  Matthew just arrived in March 2014, and is weighing his options.  (“Do I have to stay with this family, or do I get to pick?”)  He’s a cute one, so I think we’re probably going to exercise our franchise tag on him to make sure he sticks around for a while.

    • I am a Christian (genus: Lutheran; species: Missouri Synod), saved by grace.
    • I am in the employ of Prison Fellowship, serving as web content editor, a position I have held since shortly after my marriage in late 2008.
    • I am a certifiable sports nut with questionable taste in teams.  Instead of picking popular and/or winning teams, I choose to suffer with the Bengals, Reds, and Capitals, along with the teams of my alma mater (Miami University – the one in Ohio) and my childhood team (Ohio State).  I am also an unfettered soccer fan, eschewing allegiances, except of course for the U.S. Men’s National Team.
    • I am the oldest of four Rempe boys.  This serves as a veritable well of writing material that you will no doubt encounter on this site.  Suffice to say, my mother is a saint, and earned every last gray hair on her head.
  • In addition to my blog here, I am a primary contributor to Prison Fellowship’s blog, and was an occasional blogger at the BreakPoint blog (check archive).  I had an article published in Crisis magazine in the early 2000s, was quoted in a New York Times article, and was mentioned in a humorous piece written in ESPN: The Magazine.  (I’ll let you guess which of those impresses my brothers the most.)

There is no doubt more to share that I am forgetting.  Check back and see what other revelations I am willing to offer, or just keep reading the blog – I’m sure the more you read, the more you’ll learn about me.  And I hope you keep visiting anyway.

  1. I’d like to be included in your blog. Please sign me up and put my name on your send list. I’m the father of Jeff Punches, a friend of yours and fellow Miami grad. I live in Manistee, Michigan and Jeff comes up ever so often. He thinks highly of you and from your writing, you deserve accolades.

  2. Very happy to be following your blog. My husband has a real heart for prison ministry and is hoping to get his master’s degree along the lines of prison chaplaincy. I hope to read about some of the work you do there…along with your other stories! Glad to have happened upon you on wordpress! God bless!

    1. Thanks, Katie! Glad to have found your blog, too. I look forward to reading more of your posts! Best of luck to your husband and his desire to become a prison chaplain – may God use him (and you) in great ways, wherever he lands. (Teaching is also a divine vocation – God’s richest blessings on your ministry to your students.)

  3. Having been incarcerated for many years for a Marijuana conviction (Class 1 Narcotics violation Federal) I have begun my own blog. If one types my name in Google ( at least in Arizona ) Jeffrey Meranto, 2 Federal Docs. come up as Narcotics. My new neighbors all thought I was selling Hard Drugs and treated my family as if. . well anyway I began my blog to “Set The Record Straight.” So being new to all of this I’m looking about for any advice. So should you ever get the time please drop by my blog. Your work is Wonderful. Wonderful. Wonderful. Thank you. Jeff
